Speaking in front of people has been a challenge for me. In my business, anyone can show a PowerPoint presentation, so the presentations can be very similar. This weekend has given me the tools to step out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary, so the audience has an experience of me.

One of the most valuable tools I learnt during the workshop was becoming aware as a way of being, and that through RealTime Speaking I can stay in an aware state. Even after the first day, as I applied the techniques through the week, I noticed a change in people’s reactions and the level of their interest in what I was speaking about. I learned that presenting is not spouting information — it involves you connecting with the audience, being present, and speaking from the heart, not the head. I realised and was reminded to be true to my self, to be authentic. I learned that confidence is related to our ability to connect with people, and not to fear that connection. This course shows you about yourself and knowing yourself — where you’re limiting yourself — and ways to be yourself when talking to others. Being yourself enables you to connect with people.

I learned that it is not necessary to bombard people with information when speaking, that what people want to hear is who you are — how you show up in the world, what drives you. I learned to come down from my head into my heart in conversation, that the difficulty I often felt in expressing myself was because I was being too mental. I really learned heaps and know this has been extremely valuable to be able to express myself authentically. Robert has a special gift in bringing out the essence of people and enabling them to see and experience that for themselves. The course is transformational. But it does depend on your willingness to break through what has held you back, and the degree to which you are willing to be vulnerable.

I can now do what I feared I would never be able to do. It is not only theoretically possible to have spirit come through when I talk, but actually possible! I have learned many things: that I have more natural presence than I thought; that I can express anger without anyone (myself included) dying; that effective speaking is more about relating to people than about getting something right. Don’t put it off as long as I did. Just do it!

I surprised myself with the results I achieved after doing both your courses back to back and then heading straight into a politically contentious four-hour presentation the very next day. The room was hot, the acoustics dreadful. I dove straight in, using the key information I had gained from the RTS courses. I had my message and intention clear, I centered myself powerfully, and connected with the everyone in the room. I took control of the room, allowed the political agendas to be voiced, and then related them easily back to the information I was there to present. I kept my essential point clearly in the forefront of my entire presentation and ended with my unforgettable closing. The result was I kept the strong attention and interest of the whole group in a challenging situation for over four hours! I was asked by Robert what I wanted to get out of this workshop. I told him I wanted to be more confident, creative, convincing and clear when I speak to people. After the first day he promised I would achieve this and gave me some things to work on during the week prior to the second session. During the second session I felt some old patterning beginning to emerge that had the propensity to sabotage all the work I did during the previous week. Robert helped me to see that these patterns had stopped me from living my life out loud and with so much love and with some strong, yet tender, coaching he helped me through my roadblocks.
